Paul Hogan, along with his wife Lori, founded Home Instead Senior Care in 1994.

In the article, titled “The Encouragement Factor,” Hogan tells the story of what inspired him to create Home Instead Senior Care back in 1994.

“My mother had 11 brothers and sisters, but she lived closest to my grandmother, and the major responsibility for my grandmother’s care fell to her. She and her siblings had a meeting and agreed that my grandmother should move in with my mother. They didn’t want to see her go to a nursing home. My grandmother regained her strength at my mother’s house, started walking to church and lived another decade.”

That seemed to be the turning point and how Hogan decided to start the business, which he did right there in his mother’s home with his grandmother in the next room.  That made a difference when they were interviewing caregivers as he saw first hand how they immediately related to his grandmother.

Initially, he didn’t plan to start a franchise but then his wife’s uncle called and wanted to know all about what they were doing and then it seemed to snowball from there.

Paul Hogan’s feature profile appears in the Sunday, February 14th edition of The New York Times, in “The Boss” section.
